“Hamilton” debuts this Friday, July 3rd on Disney+ and we have 10 facts to know before you watch.
1.) “Hamilton” was inspired by the book “Alexander Hamilton” by Ron Chernow which Lin-Manuel Miranda bought on a whim at an airport in 2007 to read on his travels to Mexico.
2.) “Hamilton” is the most successful Broadway musical of the modern era. It has won 11 Tony Awards, a Grammy award, an Olivier award and the Pulitzer Prize in 2016.
3.) “Hamilton” has 20,520 words uttered throughout the show breaking down to an average of 144 words per minute.
4.) The “Hamilton” film was filmed at the Richard Rogers Theatre in New York in June 2016 which at the time, was the only place you could watch the hit musical.
5.) Disney reportedly paid $75 million for worldwide rights to the film.
6.) The film stars Lin-Manuel Miranda and the entire original cast including Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson; Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler; and Leslie Odom Jr. as Aaron Burr; Tony Award nominees Christopher Jackson as George Washington; Jonathan Groff as King George; Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton; and Jasmine Cephas Jones as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds; Okieriete Onaodowan as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison; and Anthony Ramos as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton.
7.) “Hamilton” has an official PG-13 rating. 2 out of 3 F-bombs were eliminated to avoid an R-rating. One expletive is muted while the other is record scratched. One F-word still remains.
8.) “Hamilton” is 2 hours and 40 minutes long. This includes the pre-show announcement, bows, post show applause and a 1 minute intermission between Act 1 and Act 2.
9.) In the first trailer for the film, the Walt Disney Pictures logo has red, white, and blue fireworks (representing the fight for American Independence) surrounding the castle.
10.) “Hamilton” officially drops on Disney+ on July 3rd at 3am EDT.
