Filming is currently underway for the Disney+ Original series “Ahsoka” at Manhattan Beach Studios in California.
Rosario Dawson will be reprising her role as Ahsoka in the limited series who we last saw in Season 2 of The Mandalorian and in Chapter 6 of The Book of Boba Fett. Reports have confirmed that Natasha Liu Bordizzo will portray Sabine Wren and Ivanna Sakhno will play a newly created character reportedly named Astrid. Mary Elizabeth Winstead has also reportedly been cast in an undisclosed role. Additionally, Ray Stevenson (Vikings) recently joined the cast. THR reports that “he is a villain in the series and will play an admiral … although, not Thrawn.”
Insider Daniel Richtman previously revealed the following logline and synopsis for the series:
In “Ahsoka” Tano (Rosario Dawson) is on the hunt for the evil Grand Admiral Thrawn in the hope it will help her locate the missing Ezra Bridger, the young Jedi that disappeared with Thrawn many years ago. Based on characters from the “Star Wars” franchise. A spinoff of the TV series “The Mandalorian.”

The actor who will play the live-action version of Ezra Bridger has not been announced yet but that could change soon. According to Jordan Maison at Cinelinx, Eman Esfandi (King Richard) will play Bridger in the upcoming series and the actor has already reportedly begun filming alongside Rosario Dawson. Aladdin star Mena Massoud was previously linked to play Ezra however nothing was confirmed.
As always, since nothing has been confirmed by Disney or Lucasfilm, we will treat this as a rumor for now.
Peter Ramsey will reportedly direct at least one episode of Disney+’s upcoming “Ahsoka” series. Ramsey is the first Black filmmaker to win the animated feature Oscar as co-director of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Dave Filoni is attached to write the show and is exec producing with Jon Favreau.
“Ahsoka” is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in 2023.
The Marvel, Lucasfilm, and 20th Century Studios panel at D23 Expo takes place tomorrow, September 10, at 10 a.m. PT. Be sure to follow along with Disney Plus Informer all weekend long as we cover all the big announcements from D23 Expo.
