20th Century Studio’s Alita: Battle Angel may be getting a series on Disney+. The franchise which is now owned by Disney has been getting a lot of pressure from fans on social media for more content from the original film which was directed by Robert Rodriguez and produced by James Cameron. About a year ago, rumors started circulating that the streamer was considering a prequel series but things have been pretty quiet since then.
Now, GiantFreakinRobot is reporting that one of our trusted and proven inside sources has learned Disney+ is interested in taking on a live-action Alita Battle Angel series for the streaming service. Our source was able to share that Disney+ is interested in an Alita Battle Angel series for the streaming service, and in having it be live-action, but they weren’t able to share whether anyone from the 2019 film may be involved.
Robert Rodriguez has already shared he was interested in an Alita continuation. The director recently said he hoped that working with Disney on The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett would open the doors for an Alita project.
In case you aren’t familiar, the 2019 film was based on Japanese manga artist Yukito Kishiro’s 1990s series, Battle Angel Alita. The movie also drew inspiration from the 1993 original video animation adaptation, Battle Angel. Alita: Battle Angel made over $400 million dollars at the global box office on a $170 million budget.
