The news comes from industry insider Daniel RPK who revealed that Edebiri is being eyed to be the protagonist named Anne (which RPK also says could be a codename) for the next installment of Disney’s franchise. The new movie would revolve around a group of much younger pirates searching for a new treasure.
As always, since nothing has been confirmed by Disney or a major trade organization, we will treat this as a rumor for now.
Craig Mazin, notable for his work as a co-writer on the acclaimed HBO series “Chernobyl” and “The Last of Us”, had commenced work on a new installment in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series, a project that has already received the green light from Disney.
Speaking to LA Times, Craig Mazin said:
“We pitched it and thought there’s no way they’re buying it, it’s too weird. And they did! And then he wrote a fantastic script, and the strike happened, and everyone’s waiting around.”
Edebiri is best known for her award-winning role as Sydney on FX’s The Bear and has also voiced characters in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. Edebiri will also star in the upcoming horror film Opus.
