Baz Luhrmann Tipped for ‘Tangled’ Live-Action Directing Role

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Disney is working on a “Tangled” live-action adaptation.

Last week, reports emerged that Disney is considering Florence Pugh for Rapunzel’s role in the forthcoming ‘Tangled’ film.

This week, industry insider Daniel Richtman reported that Disney’s preferred choice for directing ‘Tangled’ is Baz Luhrmann, known for ‘Moulin Rouge’ and ‘Elvis.’

Currently, it’s uncertain whether any formal discussions have taken place or if an offer has been extended, given that the film is in its preliminary stages of development.

As of now, no additional details have been provided.

Given the current writers/actors strike and Disney’s significant budget cuts, the release of a live-action “Tangled” film is not assured, especially in the near future. However, considering Disney’s live-action films have raked in over $9.5 billion worldwide since 2010’s Alice In Wonderland, it’s evident the studio will remain keen on producing more live-action adaptations in the future.

In the upcoming years, Disney will release many live-action adaptations. Set to debut are “Snow White” (2024), “Lilo & Stitch” (2024), “Mufasa” (2024), and “Moana” (2025). Besides these and the previously noted “Tangled”, Disney is exploring live-action versions of “Princess and the Frog,” “Aristocats,” “Hercules,” “The Sword in the Stone,” “Bambi,” and “Robin Hood.” However, it’s worth noting that the projects without specified release dates are still in early development and might not see fruition.
