A Beauty and the Beast prequel series is currently in development for Disney+. The spinoff series will focus on Gaston and his trusty sidekick LeFou with Luke Evans and Josh Gad reprising their roles from 2017’s live-action Beauty and the Beast. Not too many details about the plot have been revealed so far, but The Illuminerdi is reporting that a casting call has been put out for a brand-new supporting character, Tilly. The character is a young black teen who is said to have great poise an adventurous streak, and some mischief in her eyes as she tries to “write her own story.” The role also requires singing.
Alan Menken is writing the songs for the series. Menken also leaked the title for the prequel to Variety last year saying the project was titled “The Little Town”. You can see that quote below:
I’M EXCITED ABOUT THE PROJECTS I’M DOING. I’M WORKING ON “DISENCHANTED” AND A NEW “BEAUTY AND THE BEAST” PREQUEL, “THE LITTLE TOWN.” I’VE ALSO BEEN WORKING ON THE NEW ANIMATED PICTURE “SPELLBOUND” WITH JOHN LASSETER. AND I’M DOING A BUNCH OF BROADWAY SHOWS.
Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz (Once Upon A Time) are set to co-write and serve as showrunners. Gad will also serve as co-writer on the project, with Horowitz, and Kitsis also executive producing.
Production is set to begin this September in the UK and the series is expected to premiere on Disney+ next Fall.
