RELEASE DATE: July 9, 2021 (CINEMA / DISNEY+ PREMIER ACCESS)
Set between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, Black Widow will not only show us what Natasha Romanoff got up to after helping Cap and Bucky escape but it will also introduce us to a set of brand new (to the MCU) characters, most of which are part of Nat’s dark past. Red Guardian (David Harbour), Iron Maiden (Rachel Weisz), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and Taskmaster will all make appearances in the MCU for the first time.
The movie is directed by Cate Shortland from a screenplay by Jac Schaeffer and Ned Benson and has been subject to a few shifts in its release date. Originally slated to hit cinemas on May 1, 2020, it was pushed to November due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This date was then shifted to May 7th 2021, after audiences around the world were still unable to return to cinemas properly. Finally, after months of speculation Black Widow was announced as the first MCU movie to get a Disney+ release, as it was moved to July 9th as part Disney’s summer slate reshuffle. Audiences will be able to choose between the cinema, where available and Disney+ via Premier Access for £19.99 (UK) – prices in other territories may vary.
