C-3PO and R2-D2 To Reportedly Appear in Obi-Wan Kenobi Series

We’ve been hearing a lot more news lately about the upcoming “Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi” series for Disney+.  Earlier this week, there were several reports that Fast & Furious veteran Sung Kang had been cast to play the Fifth Brother from the animated series Star Wars Rebels. Additional reports also suggested that Vivien Lyra Blair (Bird Box, We Can Be Heroes) had been cast as a young Princess Leia Organa in the series.

Now, a new report has surfaced indicating that our favorite droid duo, C-3PO and R2-D2 will be making an appearance in the series as well.  The news comes from LRM who says they can’t say how big a role they have, but they are definitely in it.  Given the recent reports of a Leia casting,  it makes sense the two could appear alongside the young princess.  C-3PO and R2-D2 are the only characters to appear in all nine of the Star Wars saga films.

Obi-Wan Kenobi,” begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

Previously announced cast includes Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan and Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader. The series will also see the return of Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars and Bonnie Piesse as Beru Lars. Star Wars newcomers include Eternals‘ Kumail Nanjiani, Game of Thrones‘ Indira Varma and Rupert Friend.

The series is executive-produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor and writer Joby Harold. The casting director is Carmen Cuba.

A premiere date for “Obi Wan” has not been released yet, but the series will consist of six hour-long episodes and is expected to arrive on Disney+ sometime next year.
