Cheech Marin (Shotgun Wedding, Champions) has joined the cast of the upcoming Disney+ Original movie “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.” The actor replaces George Lopez who had to exit the project due to scheduling conflicts.
The feature will be a Latino-centric adaptation of the best-selling children’s book by Judith Viorst.
Previously announced cast includes Eva Longoria, Jesse Garcia (Flamin’ Hot), Paulina Chávez (The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia, Fate: The Winx Saga), Rose Portillo (Zoot Suit, The Exorcist II) and Thom Nemer (Snowfall) is set to star as the titular character.
Marin will play the patriarch of the Garcia family, a tough biker grandfather.
Alexander tells the story of 11-year-old Alexander Garcia, who thinks he has the worst luck in the world. When his family sets off on a road trip to California, he’s pretty sure disaster awaits at every corner. His anxiety only increases when a family secret is revealed.
Longoria and Garcia play Alexander’s parents Val and Frank; Paulina Chávez plays his 16-year-old sister Mia; Rose Portillo plays his grandmother Lidia.
Marvin Lemus directs the script from Matt Lopez.
Production is currently underway in New Mexico.
A release date for Disney+ has not been announced yet.
