No official casting news has been announced yet but there have been plenty of rumors suggesting that both Taron Egerton and Ariana Grande were being eyed to play Hercules and Megara respectively. Danny Devito is also rumored to reprise his role as Phil from the animated movie. The news comes from industry insider Daniel RPK who says Disney was actively talking to DeVito about returning to play Phil right before the SAG strike. This news has not been confirmed but the actor did express interest in reprising his role in the past.
As always, since nothing has been announced by Disney, we will treat this as a rumor for now.
Few details have been revealed about the remake, however, in a recent interview with GamesRadar, Joe Russo shared that the upcoming movie will have a modern twist but still honor the original. You can see what Russo said below:
“It will certainly pay homage to the original with a more modern spin on it. What Anthony and I love about the original is how funny and subversive it is. I think we try to embrace that sense of humor in the remake.“
