Last July, during the Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, announced that “Daredevil: Born Again,” an original series starring Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, would be coming to Disney+ in spring 2024.
However, with filming temporarily paused due to the writers/actors strike, it was expected that the series would be delayed.
A new report from The Hollywood Reporter has now confirmed that the show has been delayed indefinitely.
The series, initially slated for a spring 2024 debut, has now been removed from Marvel Studios’ release schedule completely.
While the strikes are actively ongoing, it’s challenging to pinpoint the precise release window for “Daredevil: Born Again.” As of now, it seems unlikely that we’ll see the series before fall 2024.
“Daredevil: Born Again” is an Original Disney+ series that will star Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio.
Cox originally played Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the Marvel series on Netflix from 2015 to 2018. He also appeared in the spinoff series, The Defenders. Most recently his character had a cameo appearance in Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk Attorney at Law.
Vincent D’Onofrio who played Wilson Fisk in the original “Daredevil” series recently reprised his role as Kingpin, in the Disney+ series Hawkeye. The two will also reprise their roles in the upcoming Echo series on Disney+ which will arrive on Disney+ on November 29, 2023.
Recently it was confirmed that Jon Bernthal will also be reprising his role as Frank Castle aka The Punisher in the series. Bernthal first played the character in the second season of Netflix’s original Daredevil series which spawned “The Punisher” series which ran for two seasons 2017-19.
Sopranos prequel actor Michael Gandolfini (The Many Saints of Newark) has joined the cast of Born Again in a major role and Margarita Levieva (The Deuce) and Sandrine Holt (American Gigolo) have also boarded the series. Holt will reportedly play Vanessa Fisk, the wife of Wilson Fisk. Arty Froushan (Carnival Row) has been reportedly cast to play Harry, one of the main characters opposite Cox and D’Onofrio. Nikki M. James (The Book of Mormon) and Michael Gaston (Chicago P.D., Mayor of Kingstown) have also been cast in undisclosed roles.
Clark Johnson (Evil, Bosch) is also set to recur and direct two episodes. Director Michael Cuesta (Dexter, Homeland) will helm the first episode.
Filming on the project began 3 months ago and is expected to continue through November 15, 2023. It was previously revealed that the project will be filming under the working title “Out the Kitchen” under the production company Blind Faith Productions LLC.
The series will be written and executive produced by Covert Affairs creators Matt Corman and Chris Ord.
Season 1 will consist of 18 episodes.
