David Lowery Confirmed To Direct An Episode of ‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’

Earlier, we reported on a rumor that David Lowery, famous for his work on Pete’s Dragon, The Old Man & The Gun and The Green Knight, will direct at least one episode of “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” and now that report has been confirmed by Variety. Lowery also directed the upcoming Disney+ Original movie Peter Pany & Wendy which will release on the streamer on April 28th.

Recently, it was also confirmed that The Daniels directed an episode of the upcoming Disney+ Original series “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.”  The Daniels is comprised of the directing duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. The team each won 3 Oscars for Best Orginal Screenplay, Best Director and Best Picture for the film Everything Everywhere All At Once. Other credits include the Turn Down For What music video and the 2016 film Swiss Army Man.

“Skeleton Crew” stars Jude law and is created by Jon Watts and executive produced by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. Christopher Ford will reportedly direct an unspecified number of episodes as well.

The show takes place during the post–’Return of the Jedi’ reconstruction that follows the fall of the Empire, the same as ‘The Mandalorian,’ but its plot remains a secret. Inside Lucasfilm, the show is being described as a galactic version of classic Amblin coming-of-age adventure films of the ’80s.

The synopsis is as follows: Skeleton Crew tells the story of four kids who find themselves lost in the vastness of the galaxy trying to find their way home.

A recent piece of information from The Hollywood Reporter says the budget for the series is around 136 million which is one of the highest costing series for the streaming service.

“Skeleton Crew” has wrapped filming and is expected to release on Disney+ in 2023.
