Director Tim Federle Offers Update on ‘Sister Act 3’ Disney+ Film

During Disney’s Investor Day Presentation in December 2020,  Disney officially confirmed that Sister Act 3 was in development and would be coming to Disney+.  No other details were announced at that time except Whoopi Goldberg would return to star and produce, with Tyler Perry on board as a producer as well.

Last October, it was revealed that Tim Federle had been tapped to direct the movie with Madhuri Shekar writing the script.  Tom Leonardis was also added as a producer, however, we haven’t heard anything about the project since.

During a recent press tour to promote the Disney+ Original film “Better Nate Than Ever,” director Tim Federle provided a small update on Sister Act 3 saying the following:

“I hope we are starting this year. I think the ‘Sister Act’ franchise is a big priority to the (Disney) studio scripts coming along and I think Whoopi is really excited.”

Federle also mentioned the importance of scheduling in another interview with Collider saying the following:

“Now it’s just about schedules and chips falling where they may. [Scheduling] is literally everything.”

The original film from 1992 followed Deloris (Goldberg)  the night club singer who went on the run from the mob and became a nun in a convent.  The movie went on to make $231.6 million worldwide and spawned a sequel.

Federle is the writer of the animated film “Ferdinand” and the producer behind “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.” He also directed the Disney+ movie “Better Nate Than Ever” starring Lisa Kudrow which is now streaming on Disney+

A release date for Sister Act 3 has not been announced yet.
