Disney+ Germany Acquires ‘Marie Antoinette’ Series

Disney+ has picked up the historical drama series “Marie Antoinette” in Germany.

According to Deadline, the Banijay Studios France, CAPA Drama and Les Gens eight-parter will launch on the streamer on June 21 following a deal with Banijay Rights.  The show was produced for Canal+ and has also been acquired by PBS in the United States.

The series tells the story of the modern and avant-garde young queen as she navigates the French political establishment.  Season 1 was created by Deborah Davis (The Favourite) and stars Emilia Schüle.

Banijay Rights has now sold the show to more than 70 countries, including UK public broadcaster BBC2 and BBC First in Australia, as well as networks across Europe and Latin America. A second season has already been ordered by Canal+.
