The holidays are fast approaching and there’s no question that Disney+ will make for a perfect gift this holiday season. We know, we know — it wouldn’t be the most conventional present in the stocking, but it is a gift that keeps on giving, providing the recipient with hundreds of hours of entertainment through Disney+. We have all the information you need so that you can give the gift of Disney Plus!
What streaming devices are supported by Disney+?
Thankfully, Disney+ is available on almost all streaming devices and there’s a good chance that you already have at least one. There’s also a possibility that your smart TV has Disney+ built-in, so be sure to double-check that before purchasing anything. It definitely wouldn’t hurt to upgrade or even have an extra for the bedroom.
If you’re considering purchasing Disney+ as a gift, just ensure they have one of the following devices below. We’ve included links to purchase some of the best streaming devices for Disney+ below. Some streaming devices even have some holiday sales!
- Amazon Fire TV Stick — $35 ($5 off)
- Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K — $50
- Google Chromecast — $35
- Roku Streaming Stick+ — $45 ($15 off)
- Google Chromecast Ultra — $70
- Roku Ultra (2018) — $75 ($25 off)
- Amazon Fire TV Cube — $120
- Apple TV 4K — $170 ($10 off)
Which streaming device should I purchase?
The Disney+ is virtually the same from device to device and shouldn’t make too much difference. Keep in mind, you’ll probably see some performance improvements with a device such as an Apple TV compared to a $30 steaming stick. That’s expected and shouldn’t be a deal-breaker for most people.
Personally, I believe you should stick to the ecosystem you already have. If you have an iPhone or the person you’re purchasing for does; consider Apple TV or an Amazon Fire Device. If you have an Android, Chromecast or Fire Devices are your best options.
How much does Disney+ cost?
Disney+ is incredible value at just $6.99 a month. If you’re looking to purchase Disney+ as a gift, you’ll have to purchase an annual subscription as that is currently the only option when gifting. An annual subscription is priced at $69.99.
If you’re purchasing Disney+ for somebody in the same household, there’s no real reason you have to use the gift option. You’ll have more flexibility with choosing monthly or annually and you can even bundle Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN for $13 a month.
How can I ‘gift’ Disney+?
There are two major caveats with the Disney+ online gift subscription. The first is that it is just for US residents. If you live in the other few countries where Disney Plus is currently available, you’re out of luck for this holiday season. Also, the person that receives it cannot currently have a Disney+ subscription; this is just for new users.
With that out of the way, the first thing you need to do is go to the Disney+ online gift subscription page here.
Once there, click on the “Buy now” link and fill in your name and email. You will be asked to fill in the name and email of the person that’s receiving the subscription. It’ll also ask for your payment info. Finally, you will see a summary of your purchase before you make the final decision to pay for it. You can also select a date for the gift card to delivered which is super neat.
For the person that actually receives the 12-month Disney Plus gift subscription, they will get a code at their email address. They will then need to go to the Disney Plus redemption site, type in the code, and create their new Disney Plus account. DONE!
You can also pick up Disney+ gift cards physically at Disney Stores and Parks in the U.S.
Frankly, even if you aren’t planning on picking up a membership as a gift, Disney+ is the perfect addition to your holiday entertainment rotation.
