Disney continues to reinvent their animated classics into live-action films with production currently underway for Peter Pan & Wendy, The Little Mermaid, and Pinocchio.  Today, we have some casting news from The Illuminerdi who says Disney is eyeing the young actor Oakes Fegley to play Lampwick in their Pinocchio remake.

In the film, Lampwick is a supporting character and a rascal of a boy who is quick to ridicule and tease Pinocchio. Lampwick has a Brooklyn accent and a fondness for leaving wreckage in his wake. Lampwick happily embraces the scandalous activities on Pleasure Island right up until it’s too late and he learns the truth about the apparent paradise for scoundrels.

Fegley is best known for playing Pete in 2016’s Disney’s Pete’s Dragon. The actor made his film debut in 2014 in the drama, Fort Bliss.  More recently, he appeared alongside Robert De Niro in last year’s The War with Grandpa.

Pinocchio is a compelling new live-action retelling that will leverage state-of-the art CGI to bring Pinocchio to life. A living puppet, with the help of a cricket as his conscience, must prove himself worthy to become a real boy in a musical remake of the Disney animated classic.

A teaser was released for the film during the Disney Investor Day presentation which you can see in the Tweet below:

The live-action Pinocchio remake is written by Chris Weitz and Robert Zemeckis.  Weitz is attached to produce along with Andrew Miano, Paul Weitz, Jack Rapke, and Jackie Levine.

Robert Zemeckis directs and Tom Hanks stars as Geppetto.

The live action Pinocchio film will premiere exclusively on Disney+, however a release date has not been announced yet.
