Disney+ Leaving NOW TV

Sky has announced that Disney+ will be leaving the original NOW (formerly Now TV) hardware box on May 30, 2023.

According to the NOW Help Team on social media, Disney+ is being removed due to “compatibility with certain devices for its new features and functionalities.”

The removal is happening due to Roku, which is the software that powers NOW TV boxes, is pulling support for Disney+.

Although NOW subscribers may be disheartened by this news, it is not entirely unexpected, considering that Roku and Sky ceased production on this model many years ago.

It’s worth nothing that the product impacted is only the original NOW TV Smart Box, and no other SVOD apps have currently stated their intention to remove their apps. NOW Subscribers can be reassured that all other NOW products will continue to work as usual.

Moving forward, NOW subscribers using the original NOW TV Smart Box, which was sold between 2016-2018, will require a different streaming device to view Disney+. Possible choices include Smart TVs, Apple TV, Firestick, Chromecast, Roku, and numerous others.
