I love using my Firestick for watching Disney Plus on television, as it’s a more immersive experience than watching on a laptop! But there have been times when it stopped working or just started glitching.
After spending a lot of time troubleshooting, I found out the reasons why it won’t work and how to solve them.
The main reasons why Disney Plus won’t work on Firestick include compatibility issues, connection, and service problems. You can fix them by checking the error codes, improving the connection, and clearing the cache.
If you want to know more about how to fix these issues, read on!
Why Is Disney Plus Not Working On My Firestick?
Reason 1: Service Problem
Before we get into the technical stuff, I recommend checking if there are any service problems with Disney Plus.
Sometimes, Disney Plus is undergoing maintenance, meaning the servers might be down, and if so, it won’t work on any device, including your Firestick.
If your Disney Plus isn’t working on Firestick, check if it’s working on your laptop or phone. It might be a service-related issue if it isn’t working on any device.
You can also check the official Disney Plus account on Twitter or other sites like isitdownrightnow to see if the app’s server is down or not.

Reason 2: Compatibility Issues
Amazon frequently rolls out software updates to fix performance issues and app crashes in the Firestick. Now, most apps, including Disney Plus, work only on specific software versions or higher.
If you haven’t updated your Firestick in long, it might be stuck on an older version which is incompatible with the Disney Plus app.
Reason 3: Slow Internet Speed
As per my experience, Firestick requires a strong and stable internet connection. According to Amazon too, you need at least 3 Mbps for standard definition (SD) and 5 Mbps for high definition (HD).
So, even if Disney Plus is working fine on your mobile with a slow connection, there’s a high possibility that it might glitch on your Firestick.
Reason 4: Firestick-Related Issues
Lastly, ensure that it isn’t your Firestick that is glitching and not the Disney Plus app.
Sometimes, the problem is with the Firestick due to software-related issues, full storage, and overheating. I suggest checking if other apps are working on your Firestick. If they are crashing, the problem is with your Firestick itself.
How to Fix Disney Plus Not Working On Firestick?
Now that you have a rough idea about the reasons why Disney Plus isn’t working on Firestick, let me tell you about some genuinely effective solutions.
1. Familiarise Yourself With the Error Codes
One of the best things about Disney Plus is that it shows various error codes related to different issues. Just knowing what the error code is trying to say can help you solve the problem.
The table below displays some of the most common error codes with Disney Plus and their meaning.
Error Code | Meaning |
Error Code 42 | Network-related problem |
Error Code 39 | HDMI problems |
Error Code 41 | Unavailable content |
Error Code 38 | Incorrect time and date |

Depending on the interpretations of the error codes, try to find a suitable solution. I’ve also listed a few below.
2. Look for Software Updates on Your Firestick
Be it your phone or Firestick, you must update their software regularly. Outdated software may cause your Firestick to crash apps and cause glitches. Also, it might be incompatible with your Disney Plus app.
Here’s how to look for newer software updates and install the latest ones.
- First, go to Settings.
- Next, look for the option My Fire TV (new models), Device, or System (old models), and select it.
- Then, click on About.
- You’ll get the option to Install Update if there’s a software update. Click on it, and let your Firestick install the new software version!
Keep in mind that if there’s no new update available, you’ll get the option Check for Updates instead of Install Update.
Once your Firestick has updated, turn it off. Then, turn it back on, and start Disney Plus.
3. Log Out and Log In Again On the Disney Plus App
This might be the most basic solution, but it has often helped resolve the Disney Plus issue. Logging out and in again is also helpful if you’ve recently changed your password.
Here’s how you can log out of the app.
- Navigate to the Settings section.
- Then, click on the Log Out option.
You can then log in using the updated credentials and see if the app works.
4. Update the Disney Plus App
Like the Firestick, the Disney Plus app also needs regular software updates. You need to install the latest Update, as old software versions are often ridden with bugs that can cause the app not to work.
Updating an app on your Firestick is pretty straightforward. Here’s what you need to do.
- Find the Settings option on the homepage, and select it.
- Then, go to Applications.
- Under the Applications option, select the Appstore option.
- You’ll find the Automatic Updates option. Just turn it ON.
After you’ve turned on the option, the apps will be automatically updated to their latest versions. You can turn off your Firestick, turn it back on, and then start Disney Plus.
5. Clear Disney Plus’ Cache
A cache is a temporary memory that allows Disney Plus to remember your existing settings. This way, when you load the app again, you won’t have to wait long.
Excessive cache memory can take a toll on the app’s performance and cause it to degrade significantly. So, it would be best if you cleared it by following the below-mentioned steps.
- First, go to Settings.
- Then, select Applications and click on Manage Installed Applications.
- From the list of apps, choose Disney Plus.
- Finally, select the options Clear Cache and Clear Data.
You may have to log in again once you’ve cleared the cache and data.
6. Reboot Your wifi and Restart the App
If you’ve tried all the essential solutions, then there’s likely something wrong with your network. You can try switching to another network (phone’s hotspot) or troubleshooting your router.
In the past, several Disney Plus users have complained about the app not working on Firestick due to wifi/modem-related issues.
Disney Plus has also stated that you should disable IPv6 if your modem and Firestick are using that and switch to IPv4.
Note: The way to disable IPv6 depends on your router. You might have to access the router admin screen and uncheck the IPv6 option. This guide can help too.
You can also try rebooting your wifi modem and router by following these steps.
- Unplug your modem and router.
- Then, wait for at least 30 seconds to one minute.
- Plug the modem and router back, and wait at least two minutes.
- Finally, start your Firestick and open Disney Plus.
7. Restart Your Firestick
If your Disney Plus is still not working, the last option is to restart the Firestick. Doing this can remove any minor glitches related to the device.
All you have to do is follow these steps.
- Go to Settings and choose My Fire TV.
- Next, select the Restart option.
- Then, wait until the Firestick has restarted.
- Open the Disney Plus app again.
Additional Ways to Make Disney Plus Work on Firestick
You can try changing a few settings depending on the Disney Plus error codes.
- Ensure that the date and time of your Disney Plus app is correct.
- Turn off VPN if you’re using it with Firestick.
- Remove a profile, and then add a new one.
- Check if the movie or show you’re trying to access is available in your region.
