Disney’s 100th Anniversary Short, “Once Upon A Studio”, Gets Rave Reviews

In June, Disney unveiled a new short titled “Once Upon A Studio” during the opening ceremony of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France.

Over the Destination D23 weekend, attendees were treated to a viewing of the short. The Studio Showcase audience became the first in the U.S. to see the short that offers a special look inside the studio where the magic happens.

The nine-minute short celebrates Disney’s 100th anniversary and features The Genie (Robin Williams) and Olaf (Josh Gad) alongside more than 400 other Disney characters.  Other characters include Tiana, Peter Pan, Moana, Maui, Merlin, Elsa, Goofy, Winnie The Pooh, and Flash the Sloth from Zootopia.

Josh Gad said the following on Instagram:

“Now that it’s premiered at Annecy, I’m so excited to finally have the world see what @DisneyAnimation has created to celebrate the incredible 100-year legacy of the studio’. ‘I nearly cried when I was told Olaf would appear alongside The Genie, utilizing previously unheard audio from my idol #RobinWilliams.”

The new hand-drawn and CG-animated short that features an all-star ensemble of beloved Disney Animation characters who come together for a spectacular group photo in an entertaining and emotional nod to the hundred-year milestone.

“Once Upon A Studio” will be released, alongside an upcoming theatrical release, “Wish,” which arrives in theaters on November 22, 2023. Eventually, most likely in 2024, “Once Upon A Studio” will arrive on Disney+.
