During Disney’s Investor Day 2020 presentation, President of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy announced that Disney+ was working on a new event series based on the galaxy’s favorite smooth talking scoundrel, Lando Calrissian. At that time, the series was in early development and Justin Simien, creator of the critically-acclaimed Dear White People, was developing the story for the streaming service.
Since then, no new details have been shared about the project however Kennedy did offer an update during Star Wars Celebration 2022 citing Donald Glover’s busy schedule as the main hurdle.
Justin Simien recently offered a new update on the project saying he worked feverishly on the series, only to not hear back from Lucasfilm at any point in the three years since.
According to THR, brothers Donald Glover and Stephen Glover are now teaming up to write the upcoming series. The deal was made prior to the Writers Strike, which began in May.
Glover played Lando in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. Billy Dee Williams played Lando in the original Star Wars trilogy and reprised his role in The Rise of Skywalker.
