Elisabeth Moss Gives Update on ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Season 6

It’s been over a year since the Season 5 finale of “The Handmaid’s Tale” debuted on Hulu.  The popular series has been renewed for a sixth season however not much news has been shared on the upcoming season.

Recently, series star Elisabeth Moss provided a new update on Season 6 during an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Moss revealed that “The Handmaid’s Tale” upcoming season is set to begin filming sometime this summer, though she didn’t provide a specific start month. Moss also speculated that the new season may not arrive on Hulu until 2025 however that news has not been confirmed by Hulu.

Adapted from the classic novel by Margaret Atwood, “The Handmaid’s Tale” is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism in its militarized ‘return to traditional values’. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate the world. In this terrifying society, Offred must navigate between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids – where anyone could be a spy for Gilead – all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.

In Season 5, June faces consequences for killing Commander Waterford while struggling to redefine her identity and purpose. The widowed Serena Joy will attempt to raise her profile in Toronto as Gilead’s influence creeps into Canada, while Commander Lawrence will work with Aunt Lydia as he tries to reform Gilead and rise in power. June, Luke and Moira still need to fight Gilead from a distance to continue their mission to save and reunite with Hannah.

“The Handmaid’s Tale” stars Elisabeth Moss, Bradley Whitford, Yvonne Strahovski, Max Minghella, O-T Fagbenle, Samira Wiley, Ann Dowd, Madeline Brewer, Amanda Brugel and Sam Jaeger.

The series is produced by MGM Television and internationally distributed by MGM. Moss executive produces alongside Bruce Miller, Warren Littlefield, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, Eric Tuchman, Yahlin Chang, Rachel Skukert, Sheila Hockin, John Weber, Frank Siracusa, Steve Stark and Kim Todd.
