The beginning of the month will often see Disney remove certain titles from Disney+ due to existing contracts. October 2022 will continue that trend as nine titles have been removed from Disney+ in the United States so far.
The removals came as a bit of a surprise since Disney+ does not announce which titles will be leaving every month like other streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu.
Some of the titles below are expected to return to Disney+ after pre-existing streaming contracts expire.
Man in the Arena: Tom Brady
In “Man in the Arena,” Brady and other notable figures deconstruct the milestones of his legendary NFL career, mining the psychological and emotional terrain of each victory and defeat. Each episode focuses on a single Super Bowl appearance, beginning with Super Bowl XXXVI, when Brady took over as quarterback for the New England Patriots after star quarterback Drew Bledsoe suffered an injury. The episodes depict not just the pivotal moments, but everything that leads to them, illustrating the series of small steps that seem insignificant at the time, but when reflected upon, show the distance traveled. The docuseries is co-produced by ESPN, NFL Films, 199 Productions, and Gotham Chopra for Religion of Sports.
In April, Disney confirmed that Man in the Arena: Tom Brady would only be available on Disney+ for a limited time and it appears that time is now up. It’s expected that this is a permanent removal, but the show can still be watched on ESPN+.Â
Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian
Once the night guard at the Museum of Natural History, Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) is now a successful purveyor of infomercial products. Soon after learning that his museum friends have been shipped to the Smithsonian Institution, Larry receives a distress call from Jedediah, who warns him that four of history’s greatest villains have come to life and are planning to take over the Smithsonian first, then the world. Larry joins forces with friends old and new to stop the quartet’s nefarious plans.
The film is expected to return to Disney+ when contracts that were made before The Walt Disney Company purchased 20th Century Fox expire.
The movie can be streamed on Starz in the meantime and is expected to make a return to Disney+ sometime in 2024.
