Last week, Disney announced that Season 2 of The Mandalorian would be arriving on Disney + on Friday, October 30th. Fans have been anxiously waiting for a trailer or new details about the sophomore season and today we finally have a first look at the upcoming series courtesy of Entertainment Weekly.

The first season of The Mandalorian followed the bounty hunter Din Djarin, an orphan raised by Mandalorian warriors, as he traveled across the galaxy while protecting The Child aka Baby Yoda, from the clutches of Galactic Empire governor-turned-warlord Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito). The season concluded with Mando embarking on a search for the Child’s own kind, and Gideon was revealed to possess the mysterious ancient black-bladed weapon the Darksaber.
The second season’s plot will see the villainous Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) continuing to pursue The Child across the galaxy. As Mando and The Child continue their quest, expect the bounty hunter to face a series of obstacles that will increasingly challenge his paternal loyalty to his ward. “We start very directly after the first [season] and he’s going into very dangerous territory,” Pascal, 45, says. “He is very much a passenger to the experience in unexpected ways — not knowing what’s to come, not knowing how much or how best to protect The Child. We don’t know how far he will go to do that, and they’re finding new ways to push the envelope.”
“The new season is about introducing a larger story in the world,” showrunner John Favreau told EW.
“The stories become less isolated, yet each episode has its own flavor, and hopefully we’re bringing a lot more scope to the show.” Adds executive producer Dave Filoni, “Everything gets bigger, the stakes get higher, but also the personal story between the Child and the Mandalorian develops in a way I think people will enjoy.”
“As we introduce other characters, there are opportunities to follow different storylines,” Favreau says. “The world was really captivated by Game of Thrones and how that evolved as the characters followed different storylines — that’s very appealing to me as an audience member.”
Returning for Season 2 are Pedro Pascal as The Mandalorian, Gina Carano as Cara Dune, Carl Weathers as Greef Karga, Emily Swallow as the Armorer, Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon, Bill Burr as Mayfeld, and Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand.
Newcomers rumored to appear in the series include WWE superstar Sasha Banks in an unknown role, Michael Biehn as a possible bounty bunter from Mando’s past, Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett, Rosario Dawson as Jedi Ahsoka Tano, Timothy Olyphant possibly as Cobb Vanth and Katee Sackhoff as the Mandalorian leader Bo-Katan Kryze.
Confirmed directors for Season 2 include: Rick Famuyiwa, Bryce Dallas Howard (Pete’s Dragon), Peyton Reed (Ant-Man), Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids, Alita: Battle Angel), Carl Weathers, Dave Filoni (The Clone Wars), and Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Jungle Book).
Favreau will once again showrun and executive produce alongside Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.
