‘Freaky Friday 2’ Adds ‘Welcome to Chippendales’ Director

Last May, it was announced that Disney was developing a sequel to “Freaky Friday” with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis expected to reprise their roles as mother-daughter duo Anna and Tess Coleman from the original film.

Elyse Hollander (Black List, It Was Romance, An Ode to Demons) is penning the script.

Since then, news on the project has been pretty scarce but according to a new report, the film is officially in development with filmmaker Nisha Ganatra (Welcome to Chippendales) on board to direct.  Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are also in negotiations to reprise their roles.

Andrew Gunn, who produced the 2003 movie, is producing along with former Disney exec Kristin Burr. Ann Marie Sanderlin will executive produce.

Cameras are hoping to roll in Los Angeles this summer. It is unclear whether the feature will be released theatrically or debut on Disney+.

Disney’s “Freaky Friday” movie starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan was released in 2003.  In the film, Dr. Tess Coleman and her teenage daughter Anna have one thing in common – they don’t relate to each other on anything. Then one night a little mystic mayhem changes their lives and they wake up to the biggest freak-out ever. Tess and Anna are trapped inside each other’s body! But Tess’s wedding is Saturday and the two must find a way to switch back – fast! Literally forced to walk in each other’s shoes, will they gain respect and understanding for the other’s point of view?

Freaky Friday” is available to stream now on Disney+ along with a 2018 version and the original version from 1976 starring Jodie Foster.
