George Lopez is exiting the upcoming Disney+ Original movie “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” due to scheduling conflicts, Deadline reports. A replacement has not been announced yet. Lopez was set to play the patriarch of the Garcia family, a tough biker grandfather.
The feature will be a Latino-centric adaptation of the best-selling children’s book by Judith Viorst.
Previously announced cast includes Eva Longoria, Jesse Garcia (Flamin’ Hot), Paulina Chávez (The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia, Fate: The Winx Saga), Rose Portillo (Zoot Suit, The Exorcist II) and Thom Nemer (Snowfall) is set to star as the titular character.
Alexander tells the story of 11-year-old Alexander Garcia, who thinks he has the worst luck in the world. When his family sets off on a road trip to California, he’s pretty sure disaster awaits at every corner. His anxiety only increases when a family secret is revealed.
Longoria and Garcia play Alexander’s parents Val and Frank; Paulina Chávez plays his 16-year-old sister Mia; Rose Portillo plays his grandmother Lidia.
Marvin Lemus directs the script from Matt Lopez.
Production is currently underway in New Mexico.
A release date for Disney+ has not been announced yet.
