Despite reports that Season 3 of “The Mandalorian” started production last month, new information suggests that cameras haven’t started rolling yet…but soon will.
Giancarlo Esposito, who plays Moff Gideon in the Disney+ Star Wars series, recently appeared at GalaxyCon Raleigh. During an interview with WRAL, the actor shared that, “They just finished shooting Boba Fett and soon they will start on season three.”
Esposito could not provide any details on the script but shared that we should expect to see more of his character in the third season.
There has also been some speculation if Season 3 could start filming soon due to Mando star Pedro Pascal’s availability. The actor was previously committed to filming HBO’s video game adaptation The Last of Us until next summer, however, Esposito revealed that this would not have an impact on filming the series.
“We never have to wait on Pedro,” Esposito said, noting that the title character wears a helmet a lot. Pascal potentially has the option to voice the character when he can’t be in the suit.
Following the Season 2 finale of “The Mandalorian,” it was revealed that “The Book of Boba Fett” would be coming to Disney+ in December 2021. The new stand-alone series is being described as “The Mandalorian” 2.5 and will star Temuera Morrison (Boba Fett) and Ming-Na Wen (Fennec Shand) as well as be executive produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Robert Rodriguez.
Season 3 of “The Mandalorian” is expected to premiere in late 2022 on Disney+.
