Disney’s ABC has officially announced that the longest-running primetime medical drama, ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ will be returning for a twentieth season.
Meg Marinis will serve as showrunner for Season 20 and replaces longtime Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 showrunner Krista Vernoff, who is leaving both at the end of this season.
It’s expected, but not officially confirmed, that Station 19 will also return for another season.
Following the midseason premiere’s highly anticipated sendoff episode for Meredith Grey, portrayed by Ellen Pompeo, she is set to return for Grey’s Anatomy’s Season 19 finale on May 18. Although there is no current acting agreement for Pompeo beyond this season, there are indications suggesting that she may make an appearance in the show’s following season. Pompeo retains her position as an executive producer on Grey’s and continues to narrate the opening and closing voiceovers for each episode.
Season 19 is available to stream on Hulu now, and on Disney+ internationally.
