During Disney’s Investor Day presentation, Disney+ confirmed that a sequel to 1993’s cult classic Hocus Pocus is in development for the streaming service.
Original stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy have all expressed interest to return for Hocus Pocus 2, but nothing has been confirmed.
The new Hocus Pocus movie will be written by TV writer producer Jen D’Angelo, who has previously worked on “Happy Together,” “LA to Vegas,” and “Workaholics.” Lynn Harris will produce the movie.
Adam Shankman has signed on to direct the new movie. Shankman has directed many popular films including “What Men Want,” “Hairspray” and “Rock of Ages.”
Production on the project is expected to begin early next year in Los Angeles and Massachusetts. The film does not have a release date set as of yet.
In the classic 1993 Halloween film, Bette Midler joins Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as three outlandishly wild witches who return from 17th Century Salem for a night of zany fun and comic chaos.
After they’re accidentally conjured up by some unsuspecting pranksters, the tricky 300-year-old trio sets out to cast a spell on the town and reclaim their youth but first they must outwit three feisty kids who are determined to foil their scheme!
The original Hocus Pocus movie is available to stream now on Disney+.
