“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is currently filming in Atlanta, Georgia and Kevin Feige recently revealed a key character who will be introduced in the film. The Marvel Studios CEO confirmed in an interview with Comicbook.com that Dominique Thorne, who will be playing Ironheart in the upcoming Disney+ series, will make her debut in Black Panther 2 before appearing in her self-titled series. You can read that quote below.
We’re shooting Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, right now, and the character of Riri Williams, you will meet in Black Panther 2 first. She started shooting, I think, this week before her Ironheart series
Not much is known about the new Ironheart series but the following was provided at Disney’s Investor Day last December: Dominique Thorne is genius inventor Riri Williams in Ironheart, an Original Series about the creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man. Recently, it was revealed that Chinaka Hodge (Snowpiercer) will serve as head writer for the series. Production on Ironheart will reportedly begin in April 2022.
Marvel’s Ironheart character follows Riri Williams, a 15-year old engineering genius attending Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Riri builds a suit based on Iron Man’s armor and takes up the name Ironheart. The character has appeared in some Marvel animated series including Spider-Man: Maximum Venom and Marvel Rising.
Plot details for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” are also being kept under wraps but we do know that T’Challa will not be recast after the passing of Chadwick Boseman and Ryan Coogler will return to direct and write the film.
Previous cast confirmed to return includes Lupita Nyong’o, Martin Freeman, Angela Bassett, Winston Duke and Danai Gurira. It’s also expected Letitia Wright, Daniel Kaluuya, and Florence Kasumba will return although nothing has been confirmed.
Narcos: Mexico star Tenoch Huerta is also reportedly joining the cast as Namor the Sub-Mariner and Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You) has signed on in an undisclosed role.
Additionally, Loki’s cinematographer Autumn Durald has been added to the project.
Marvel’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is scheduled to release in theaters on July 8, 2022.
