James Gunn Reveals Guardians Holiday Special Filming Delayed Due To COVID

Writer/director James Gunn recently revealed that “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special” has not started filming yet due to the surge in Omicron cases.  While speaking to Collider about his new HBO Max series Peacemaker, Gunn said the following:

“It’s still upcoming in the shoot. We were supposed to shoot one day in LA, and there’s too much Omicron around, so we couldn’t do it. We’re going to have to fit it in. I haven’t started yet. I’m excited to. It’s fun. The holiday special is… I’m almost jealous of it, even though I wrote it because people freak out so much on how much they love the script for the holiday special that I’m almost like, ‘Well, wait. I’ve got this movie here I’ve been working on for two years. You love the holiday special that I literally wrote in a very short amount of time.’ But, it is really funny and really good.”

Filming has temporarily paused on a number of projects including Season 3 of “The Mandalorian”, due to the rise in cases in the Los Angeles area.

Not many details are known about the holiday special other than it will be written and directed by Guardians of The Galaxy director James Gunn and was supposed to be filmed back to back with Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3.

‘The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ will be released exclusively on Disney+ during the holiday season in 2022.

The first two Guardians of the Galaxy films are available to stream now on Disney+.
