Earlier this month, The Illuminerdi reported that Disney had offered comedian Nick Offerman the role of Smee in Disney’s new live-action “Peter Pan and Wendy” film. There were also reports that Harry Potter’s Brendan Gleeson had been considered for the role as well. Apparently, neither actor landed the role because The Wrap just announced that comedian Jiff Gaffigan has signed on to play Captain Hook’s faithful and funny sidekick.
Gaffigan most recently starred in “Tesla,” “Troop Zero,” “American Dreamer” and “Light from Light.”
The actor will join previously announced cast including newcomer Alyssa Alook who will play Tiger Lily, Jude Law will play the iconic villain Captain Hook, and Yara Shahidi who has signed on to play Tinker Bell; Ever Anderson will play Wendy and Alexander Molony will play Peter Pan.
“Pete’s Dragon” director David Lowery has benn tapped to direct the film. Lowery co-wrote the script with Toby Halbrooks, and Jim Whitaker is producing. We are still awaiting casting news for the rest of the Darling family.
“Peter Pan and Wendy” is expected to start filming in Vancouver, Canada on March 8, 2021, and should wrap by June 30, 2021. The film will premiere exclusively on Disney+.
