Jolene Purdy Joins ‘Lilo & Stitch’ Live-Action Movie

Jolene Purdy (The White Lotus, WandaVision, Orange is the New Black) has joined the cast of Disney’s live-action remake of “Lilo & Stitch.”

Purdy joins previously announced cast: newcomer Maia Kealoha who will play Lilo in the movie, Sydney Elizabeth Agudong who is set to play Lilo’s older sister and legal guardian, Nani, newcomer Kahiau Machado who will play Nani’s love interest, David, and Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover) and Billy Magnussen (No Time to Die) in undisclosed roles.

According to Knight Edge Media, Purdy will play child services agent Mrs. Kekoa in the live-action movie. A description of the character is below:

A social worker, a practical, by-the-book kind, and patient woman who checks in regularly with Nani, whom she can tell is struggling to keep her head above water while taking care of her younger sister. However, she can’t help but be alarmed by what she finds at the house, unnerved to think that young Lilo is not receiving the supervision she needs. Later, Mrs. Kekoa has no choice but to look for a satisfactory foster family.

The remake is said to follow the same story as the 2002 animated film which follows the friendship formed between a lonely human girl named Lilo and an alien named Stitch.  The original movie was written and directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois.

Dean Fleischer-Camp, the filmmaker behind Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, will direct the movie on a screenplay written by Mike Van Waes.

Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback (2019’s Aladdin) are producing the film, with Ryan Halprin serving as an executive producer.

The outlet also reports that production on the project began this week on the island of Oahu and will continue over the next eight weeks under the working title Bad Dog.

“Lilo & Stitch” will stream exclusively on Disney+, however, a release date has not been announced yet.
