Disney’s “Jungle Cruise” will be released in movie theaters and Disney+ Premier Access (for an additional fee) on Friday, July 30, 2021. Even though we’re over a week away from the film’s premiere, discussions are already happening at Disney about a “Jungle Cruise” sequel.
While Disney awaits to see how well the film performs at the box office and on Disney+ Premier Access, the studio hopes the movie is a financial success and can be turned into a film franchise like Pirates of the Caribbean. “Jungle Cruise” has already garnered a lot of positive feedback from test audiences with fans loving Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Emily Blunt’s banter and humor together.
‘The Rock’ has already expressed an interest to work with Emily Blunt again and it’s no secret how much the two enjoyed working together.
Johnson recently gushed about blunt saying, “Not only is she a huge movie star but, more importantly, really the most empathetic human being I’ve ever met.”
Blunt had a similar response saying, “When you get to know him as being much gentler, much more shy than people realize, you really realize that The Rock is the performance of a lifetime,” she says. “It is so the antithesis of who he is. And so I’m going to push him to play, to take big swings with characters. Because it’s really transformative if you know him as I do and then you see him be The Rock – you’re like, ‘Who is that?’
In a recent article, The Hollywood Reporter, states that Johnson plans to make Blunt one of his “regular collaborators, which also includes Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Hart,” and that in addition to a “Jungle Cruise” sequel, The Rock has also drafted the actress to star in an “as-yet-unannounced film project that he’s producing.”
The likelihood of a “Jungle Cruise” sequel at Disney will ultimately come down to how the film performs at the box office and on Disney+ Premier Access, but given that the film is a family fun adventure about a beloved Disney theme park attraction, we think the odds are pretty good.
Inspired by the famous Disneyland theme park ride, Disney’s “Jungle Cruise” is an adventure-filled, rollicking thrill-ride down the Amazon with wisecracking skipper Frank Wolff and intrepid researcher Dr. Lily Houghton. Lily travels from London, England to the Amazon jungle and enlists Frank’s questionable services to guide her downriver on La Quila—his ramshackle-but-charming boat. Lily is determined to uncover an ancient tree with unparalleled healing abilities—possessing the power to change the future of medicine. Thrust on this epic quest together, the unlikely duo encounters innumerable dangers and supernatural forces, all lurking in the deceptive beauty of the lush rainforest. But as the secrets of the lost tree unfold, the stakes reach even higher for Lily and Frank and their fate—and mankind’s—hangs in the balance.
Jaume Collet-Serra directs the film, which stars Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Edgar Ramírez and Jack Whitehall, with Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti.
