Kathleen Kennedy Offers Update on ‘Star Wars: Lando’ Disney+ Series

During Disney’s Investor Day 2020 presentation, President of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy announced that Disney+ was working on a new event series based on the galaxy’s favorite scoundrel, Lando Calrissian.  At that time, the series was in early development and Justin Simien, creator of the critically-acclaimed Dear White People, was developing the story for the streaming service.

Since then, no new details have been shared about the project however Kennedy did offer an update during Star Wars Celebration 2022 last weekend citing Donald Glover’s busy schedule as the main hurdle.  While speaking with CinemaBlend Kennedy said the following:

“You need to ask Donald. He’s the one that holds all the cards here. But there’s no movement. I will say that honestly. But it’s not for lack of trying. It’s just that he’s a very busy guy. … He’s got another series, and I think one other thing, and then he’ll come our way. So patiently waiting.”

It was previously not confirmed who would be playing Lando in the upcoming series.  Glover played Lando in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story.  Billy Dee Williams played Lando in the original Star Wars trilogy, and reprised his role in The Rise of Skywalker.

Fans are speculating the new Lando series would most likely be a prequel to the original trilogy, or it’s possible the story would pick-up immediately after Solo.
