The DisInsider is reporting that Liesl Tommy will be directing the upcoming Beauty and the Beast prequel series for Disney+ titled, Little Town. Tommy has had an extensive career working on stage productions including a stage version of Frozen at the Hyperion Theater at Disneyland Resort in California. She also directed episodes of major television shows including Marvel’s Jessica Jones (Netflix) and The Walking Dead (AMC). She will be making her feature directional debut in the upcoming Aretha Franklin biopic Respect.
The Beauty and the Beast prequel series will focus on Gaston and his trusty sidekick LeFou with Luke Evans and Josh Gad reprising their roles from 2017’s live-action Beauty and the Beast. Alan Menken is also writing new songs for the series.
Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz (Once Upon A Time) are set to co-write and serve as showrunners. Gad will also serve as co-writer on the project, with Horowitz, and Kitsis executive producing.
Production is set to begin this September in the UK. The limited series is said to have 8 episodes and is expected to premiere on Disney+ next Fall.
