Lisa Kudrow Signs on For Disney+ Comedy ‘Better Nate Than Ever’

Lisa Kudrow has been revealed as the first name for Disney+’s musical comedy Better Nate Than Ever.  She will be playing Nate’s long-lost aunt Heidi who lives in New York.  The film is being produced by Marc Platt who has worked on La La LandMary Poppins Returns and Cruella.

Better Nate Than Ever is based on the book of the same name written by Tim Federle who will also direct and write the script for the film. Federle recently wrote, produced, and directed episodes of the Disney+ Original series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, as well as the Christmas special High School Musical: The Musical: The Holiday Special.

In the film, 13-year-old Nate Foster is an unpopular Midwestern kid who entertains vivid fantasies of becoming a big Broadway musical star. In the meantime, however, Nate can’t even get a decent role in his middle school’s drama productions, getting cast as a tree in the chorus instead of the lead role he craves. However, when he and his best friend LIBBY mastermind a daring trip to New York City, without their parents’ knowledge, to audition for “Lilo and Stitch: The Musical,” Nate may be on the verge of fulfilling his lifelong dream. But first, he has to overcome a series of comical obstacles that threaten his Broadway adventure with disaster at every farcical turn.

Kudrow is best known for her role as Phoebe Buffay in the popular comedy series Friends.  The actress was also recently seen in HBO Max’s Friends Reunion, Fox’s Housebroken and Season 2 of Netflix’s Feel Good.

Production has already started on the Disney+ Original movie in New York, New York. Even though filming is already underway, additional cast has not been revealed yet.

A premiere date for the film has not been announced but it is expected to debut on Disney+ sometime in 2022.
