Last month, it was reported that Bassam Tariq had exited as director of Marvel Studios’ “Blade.” Production on the project in Atlanta has now been delayed as the search for a new director continues.
According to Deadline, crew members on the ground in Atlanta were notified on Tuesday, with Marvel now looking to restart production in early 2023. The film had previously been set to go before cameras this November and open on November 3, 2023, though it’s now all but assured to miss that date.
Mahershala Ali will play the iconic vampire hunter. Delroy Lindo (The Harder They Fall, Da 5 Bloods) and Aaron Pierre (M. Night Shyamalan’s Old) also star. Additionally, Milan Ray (The Wonder Years) has recently joined the cast along with Anthony Starr (The Boys) who will reportedly play the villain.
Stacy Osei-Kuffour writes the script and Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige is producing.
According to Next Best Pictures’ Will Mavity, Black Panther’s costume designer, Ruth E. Carter has also joined the project.
Marvel’s “Blade” is currently scheduled to hit theaters on November 3, 2023.
