Mary Elizabeth Winstead Reportedly Playing Hera Syndulla in ‘Ahsoka’ Disney+ Series

Last January, it was revealed that Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Kate, Birds of Prey) had joined Disney+’s upcoming “Ahsoka” series.  Details on Winstead’s character were kept under wraps at that time, but according to a new report, we may now know who the actress will be playing in the Star Wars series.

The news comes from Bespin Bulletin which reports the following:

I can report that I’ve heard from my sources that the speculation is correct and Mary Elizabeth Winstead is playing the live-action version of the fan-favourite character, Hera Syndulla.

As always, since nothing has been confirmed by Lucasfilm or Disney, we will treat this as a rumor for now.

Rosario Dawson will be reprising her role as Ahsoka in the limited series who we last saw in Season 2 of The Mandalorian and in Chapter 6 of The Book of Boba Fett. Reports have confirmed that Natasha Liu Bordizzo will portray Sabine Wren and Ivanna Sakhno will play a newly created character reportedly named Astrid. Mary Elizabeth Winstead has also reportedly been cast in an undisclosed role.  Additionally, Ray Stevenson (Vikings) joined the cast.  THR reports that “he is a villain in the series and will play an admiral … although, not Thrawn.”

According to a new casting rumor, Lars Mikkelsen has been cast to play Grand Admiral Thrawn in the upcoming “Ahsoka” series.  Mikkelsen provided the voice for Thrawn in Star Wars: Rebels.

Insider Daniel Richtman previously revealed the following logline and synopsis for the series:

In “Ahsoka” Tano (Rosario Dawson) is on the hunt for the evil Grand Admiral Thrawn in the hope it will help her locate the missing Ezra Bridger, the young Jedi that disappeared with Thrawn many years ago. Based on characters from the “Star Wars” franchise. A spinoff of the TV series “The Mandalorian.”

Eman Esfandi (King Richard) was recently announced to play Ezra Bridger in the series.

Peter Ramsey will reportedly direct at least one episode of Disney+’s upcoming “Ahsoka” series.  Ramsey is the first Black filmmaker to win the animated feature Oscar as co-director of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Dave Filoni is attached to write the show and is exec producing with Jon Favreau.

Filming has already wrapped on the series.

“Ahsoka” is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in 2023.
