Michelle Williams To Star in FX Series ‘Dying For Sex’ From Liz Meriwether & Leslye Headland

Michelle Williams will headline and produce FX’s new series “Dying for Sex” based on the hit Wondery podcast.  The limited series is from writers Liz Meriwether (The Dropout) and Kim Rosenstock (Only Murders In the Building), director Leslye Headland (Acolyte) and 20th Television where Meriwether and Headland are under overall deals.

“Dying For Sex” is the story of a woman (Williams) diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer who leaves her husband of 15 years and begins to explore her sexuality. She gets the courage and support to go on this adventure from her best friend, who stays by her side all the way to the very end.

Meriwether and Rosenstock serve as showrunners and executive produce with Headland, Meriwether’s longtime collaborator Katherine Pope, Nikki Boyer, host and co-creator of the Dying For Sex podcast, and Wondery Inc.

According to Deadline, the project had been in the works since early 2023 but dealmaking was paused during the strikes. This marks Williams’ return to FX where she starred in the 2019 limited series Fosse/Verdon, which earned her an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her portrayal of Gwen Verdon. Williams recently landed her fifth Oscar nomination for her role as Mitzi Fabelman in Steven Spieberg’s The Fabelmans, inspired by his own life. She also earned a Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for The Fabelmans, among other honors.
