More Details on ‘Turner & Hooch’ Cancellation

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the Disney+ Original Series “Turner & Hooch” would not be returning for a second season.  The news came from actor Brandon Jay McLaren who plays Xavier in the series and posted the following on Twitter:

Now, another actor from the series has spoken about the show’s cancellation.   Reginald VelJohnson, who played David Sutton in both the original “Turner & Hooch” film and the Disney+ series, gave an interview with ComicBook.com, where he shared more details about the situation.  You can read what he said below:

“Well, as far as I know, they’re trying to sell it to another network or something like that. That’s what I heard. But as of now, it’s not going to be picked up, I don’t think. It was fun to do. And working with the actors was great fun and I hope so, whatever they decided to do I’m with it. It’s okay. I enjoy doing the sequel and, hopefully, we’ll have some time to do it again. But if not, I was glad for the experience.”

He also went on to say:

“No, I didn’t go back to watch the old movie.  I decided to bring something new and different to it. Well, age is the one thing you can’t avoid and so I kind of focused on doing it as it is today, not going back to revisit anything. I kind of remember what I did in terms of the character but when you approach something that you did before, you got to bring something new to it that wasn’t there before, that you didn’t focus on. So I try to do as much as I can, just make it today, to make it seem new. And that’s what I did.”

“Turner & Hooch” starred Josh Peck as Scott Turner, son of Detective Scott Turner portrayed by Tom Hanks in the 1989 film of the same name.

The series also starred Carra Patterson as Jessica Baxter, Scott’s brave, street-smart partner; Brandon Jay McLaren as Xavier Wilson, a cool, enigmatic marine-turned-US Marshal; Anthony Ruivivar as Chief James Mendez, Scott’s boss with a secret soft spot for Scott’s new dog, Hooch; Lyndsy Fonseca as Laura Turner, Scott’s sweet, animal-loving sister; Jeremy Maguire as Matthew Garland, Laura’s dog-loving son; and Vanessa Lengies as Erica Mouniere, the quirky head of the US Marshals dog training program. Becca Tobin recurs as Brooke, Scott’s former flame; and Reginald VelJohnson reprises his role as Mayor David Sutton. Five French Mastiffs also starred as Hooch, Scott’s slobbery, loveable French Mastiff.

Season 1 of “Turner & Hooch” is available to stream now on Disney+.
