The news comes from “X” user The Hollywood Handle which reports the following: The movie will follow the rise of one of Pride Lands’ greatest kings, returns to the savannah where Rafiki tells Kiara – Simba and Nala’s daughter – the story of her grandfather, with some comments coming from Timon and Pumbaa.

Barry Jenkins (Moonlight) is attached to direct on a script from Jeff Nathanson.

Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Waves and The Trial Of The Chicago 7) and Aaron Pierre (The Underground Railroad) are set to lead the voice cast.  Pierre will play Mufasa while Harrison Jr. is playing Taka.  Jenkins and Pierre previously worked together on the Amazon series The Underground Railroad.

The film will be in a “live-action” style created through photorealistic animation and computer-generated imagery.

Disney previously announced that the music will be composed by Hans Zimmer (who scored the original and 2019 version), Pharrell, and Succession’s Nicholas Britell.

Adele Romanski and Mark Ceryak are producing.
