Multiple Spider-Man Titles Removed From Disney+ Globally

In 2021, Disney and Sony entered into a multi-year content licensing agreement covering U.S. streaming and TV rights for Sony Pictures’ new theatrical releases, as well as a selection from Sony’s back catalogue.

Last year saw the introduction of many films from Sony’s “Spider-Man” back catalogue, featuring stars like Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield, to audiences in various countries.

Additionally, Disney+ expanded its offerings in numerous countries by adding a range of animated films, other Marvel movies and shows, and several FX series such as “Rescue Me” and “Damages,” all of which Sony played a role in producing or holds distribution rights for.

However, the rollout of Sony’s Marvel titles on Disney+ has been inconsistent globally due to pre-existing contracts with other streaming services. This has led to a varied scenario: some titles have been removed, others are yet to be available, and the status of several is still undecided, with these changes varying from country to country.

In recent days, a significant number of Sony titles have been withdrawn from Disney+ worldwide. While the United States has seen minimal impact, other countries, including Canada and Australia, have experienced the removal of many major titles.

This is a list of titles we’ve noted as removed from Disney+ in various countries, though it should be noted that this list may not be exhaustive.

United States:

Canada:

  • Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire)
  • Spider-Man 2 (Tobey Maguire)
  • Spider-Man 3 (Tobey Maguire)
  • The Amazing Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield)
  • The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (Andrew Garfield)
  • The Spectacular Spider-Man
  • Spider-Man (Animated)
  • For Life
  • Iron Man: Rise of Technovore
  • Rescue Me
  • Ghost Rider

United Kingdom:

  • Ghost Rider
  • Spider-Man
  • The Spectacular Spider-Man
  • Iron Man: Rise of Technovore
  • Rescue Me

Australia:

  • Spider-Man: Homecoming (Tom Holland)
  • Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire)
  • Spider-Man 2 (Tobey Maguire)
  • Spider-Man 3 (Tobey Maguire)
  • The Amazing Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield)
  • The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (Andrew Garfield)
  • The Spectacular Spider-Man
  • Spider-Man (Animated)
  • For Life
  • Iron Man: Rise of Technovore
  • Rescue Me
  • Ghost Rider

Given that Sony holds the distribution rights for these titles, the possibility of their return to Disney+ is uncertain. However, it would be logical for Disney to continue licensing these titles, which could mean the potential for some of these titles to reappear on the platform in the future.
