Surprisingly, Muppets Haunted Mansion is the first-ever Muppets Halloween Special. Whether you’re a fan of The Muppets, the Haunted Mansion ride or just Halloween itself, this new 50-minute Disney+ original has something for everyone. Right from the start, there are spooky goings-on, Halloween themed props, costumes, and plenty of creepy sound effects, capturing the essence of everyone’s favourite scary holiday.
The show feels exactly like a classic Muppets TV special, bringing together all the joyful and familiar elements you’d expect to see. The songs sprinkled throughout the short runtime are joyful and well-choreographed, making it a joyous Halloween celebration that the whole family can enjoy.
In typical Muppet fashion, our favourite characters are joined by a host of fun celebrity cameos. Stand out performances come from Yvette Nicole Brown as Gonzo’s chauffeur, Taraji P. Henson as a homicidal bride and Will Arnett as the Ghost Host. In a similar performance to Dwayne Johnson’s in Jungle Cruise, Arnett provides the same spiel that a host on a Disneyland ride would give to guests, and he does it with fantastic charisma.
Arnett’s host isn’t the only show aspect true to the ride; the entire special is an ode to the Haunted Mansion. As the host gives his opening speech, he does so, surrounded by elaborate portraits. Anyone who has been on the ride will know what comes next. Plenty of other characters from the ride are present too, and many moments mirror the Disneyland experience, which adds an extra layer of fun to an already exciting Muppets special.
With a charismatic celebrity cast, plenty of Haunted Mansion ride references and a handful of enjoyable songs, Muppets Haunted Mansion is a joyous celebration of Halloween for all the family.
Muppets Haunted Mansion is available to stream exclusively on Disney+ Friday 8th October.
