Disney+ is currently working on a “Percy Jackson & The Olympians” series based on the popular book series. Rick Riordan, who is the author of the book series, recently shared that the pilot episode was finished and they were currently on the hunt for a director. And as of Monday, the latest news on the series is that the writer’s room is now open.
Becky Riordan, the wife of Rick Riordan, posted the news on Twitter and confirmed that Joe Tracz has also joined the show as a writer. You can see that Tweet below:
Joe Tracz just emailed. Joe (who you all know from @LTMusical ) noted that as luck would have it we are starting the writers room for #PercyJackson Season 1 on Annabeth’s #birthday! What is even more lucky is having Joe in the writer’s room! More gossip at the end of the week! pic.twitter.com/0AJfV70MW7

Previous projects Tracz has worked on include “The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical” and Netflix’s “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.”
The Percy Jackson series is set to follow the storyline of the five books starting with The Lightening Thief which centers around a teenager who discovers that he is a descendent of a Greek God. The series will then take on a new book for every season.
Jonathan E. Steinberg (Black Sails, Jericho) has been hired to co-write the upcoming “Percy Jackson and The Olympians” series and will work alongside Rick Riordan.
A release date has not been announced yet, but Season 1 which will consist of 8 episodes is expected to debut on Disney+ sometime in 2022.
