Last year, during Disney’s Investor Day event, it was announced a brand new Star Wars live-action series called “Rangers of the New Republic”, would be coming to Disney+ in 2022. Set within the timeline of The Mandalorian, the series would hail from executive producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. No other details were provided, but the series was believed to center around Gina Carano’s Cara Dune, Bill Burr’s Mayfeld, and Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan, however, those details were never officially confirmed.
In a recent article from Variety, the outlet stated: Rangers of the New Republic,” is not currently in active development. Gina Carano was fired by Lucasfilm earlier this year due to the actress’s past controversial social media posts. So, if the actress was to star in the series, this could be the reason for the change. Although, it’s important to note that even if the project is not currently in active development, that doesn’t mean that those plans could change.
Lucasfilm has many other Star Wars projects in development for Disney+ including The Book of Boba Fett, The Mandalorian season 3, Andor, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and Ahsoka.
