“Renegade Nell” might be one of the most unique series to watch this year.  There’s not a definitive way to describe the show as it captures a lot of different elements from familiar franchises…superhero series meets Pirates of the Caribbean with Robin Hood and maybe throw in some Snow White and Peter Pan?  It’s a fantasy adventure series for sure.

Each episode is visually appealing with magical and mythical elements that at times take on an eerie, creepy tone.  The show is fast-paced and will easily keep you entertained with suspenseful action sequences and delightful characters.

Louisa Harland does a fantastic portrayal of Nelly Jackson, a tough and savvy street-smart young heroine who meets and embraces a magical spirit named Billy Blind.  Ted Lasso fans might recognize Billy as Nate the Great from the series played by Nick Mohammed, whose character may be small but delivers a giant-sized performance.  Frank Dillane plays “Charles Devereux,”  who provides some comic relief and is a charming character to watch.

As the journey of the characters unfolds and the adventure begins, the main plot remains clear and the storyline stays nice and focused.  A stand-out favorite is Episode 7 which opens with a musical number which sparks the question, maybe the whole series could have been a musical?

Bottom Line: “Renegade Nell” is a joy to watch and a nice break from other tired storylines.  Viewers will appreciate the uniqueness of the show and captivating characters and fun visuals.

Tip: Watch with the subtitles on for clearer dialogue details.

“Renegade Nell” is produced by Lookout Point. Executive Producers are Sally Wainwright, Ben Taylor, Faith Penhale, Will Johnston and Louise Mutter for Lookout Point, and Johanna Devereaux for Disney+. Amanda Brotchie (Gentleman Jack) and MJ Delaney (Ted Lasso) also direct episodes. Jon Jennings is Series Producer and Stella Merz is Producer.
