Review: ‘Only Murders in the Building’ Season 3

Season 3 of “Only Murders in the Building” will premiere with 2 episodes on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ globally including the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.  New episodes will release every week through Tuesday, October 3, 2023.

This season finds Charles, Oliver & Mabel (played by Steve Martin, Martin Short & Selena Gomez) investigating a murder behind the scenes of a Broadway show. Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd) is a Hollywood action star whose Broadway debut is cut short by his untimely death. Aided by co-star Loretta Durkin (Meryl Streep), our trio embarks on their toughest case yet, all while director Oliver desperately attempts to put his show back together. Curtain up!

Series regulars include Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez.

“Only Murders in the Building” hails from co-creators and writers Steve Martin and John Hoffman (“Grace & Frankie,” “Looking”). Martin and Hoffman executive produce along with Martin Short, Selena Gomez, “This Is Us” creator Dan Fogelman and Jess Rosenthal.

This review is based on Episodes 1-8 from the third season.

Our favorite trio of detective sleuths are back and better than ever.  Season 3 embarks on an all-new mystery adventure that will have you glued to the screen from the very first episode.

Martin, Short, and Gomez have kept the series alive with their captivating chemistry, and with the additions of Rudd and Streep, the show takes on a whole new level of fun which is off the charts.  There is no lull in comedic moments and often times the reactions on the character’s faces are just as funny as the riffs.

Episode 3 is a stand-out favorite featuring a shining Streep delivering a memorable performance only Meryl could give.  Episode 1’s table read might be one of the best scenes from the series so far.  Rudd’s over-the-top character is presented humorously and flawlessly.

The cast’s performance is outstanding.  The story is addictive and the laughs keep us coming back for more. Season 3 is fresh, enthralling, endearing, unpredictable but most of all hilarious.  If you haven’t entered the yellow tape of “Only Murders in the Building,” you can binge the first two seasons now ahead of the August 8th third season premiere.

Seasons 1-2 of “Only Murders in the Building” are available to stream now on Hulu in the US and Disney+ internationally, including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Ireland.
