Rick Riordan Offers New Update on ‘Daughter Of The Deep’ Disney+ Film Adaptation

Disney+ is currently working on a film adaptation based on Rick Riordan’s book “Daughter of the Deep” which pays homage to Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.  The Original fantasy film will be produced by both Rick and his wife Becky through their company, “Mythomagic.”  Riordan and Aditi Brennan Kapil will co-write the script.

Riordan recently shared an update on the project on his blog writing that the scripts are finished for the film. You can see an excerpt from the blog below:

As I previously reported, my homage to Jules Verne’s Captain Nemo adventures is being developed for a live action feature film at Disney+. My co-writer Aditi Kapil and I recently finished the script, which is now with our development partners at the Gotham Group. Once we get their notes and make a few last tweaks, we will send it to the studio and see what they think! The revision process can be long and complicated, as I mentioned above, but I think we’re in good shape so far! The script will have to be finished and approved, though, before we move into next steps like finding a director, then casting. Stay tuned!

You can read a synopsis for the book below:

Ana Dakkar is a freshman at Harding-Pencroft Academy, a five-year high school that graduates the best marine scientists, naval warriors, navigators, and underwater explorers in the world. Ana’s parents died while on a scientific expedition two years ago, and the only family she’s got left is her older brother, Dev, also a student at HP. Ana’s freshman year culminates with the class’s weekend trial at sea, the details of which have been kept secret. She only hopes she has what it’ll take to succeed. All her worries are blown out of the water when, on the bus ride to the ship, Ana and her schoolmates witness a terrible tragedy that will change the trajectory of their lives.

But wait, there’s more. The professor accompanying them informs Ana that their rival school, Land Institute, and Harding-Pencroft have been fighting a cold war for a hundred and fifty years. Now that cold war has been turned up to a full boil, and the freshmen are in danger of becoming fish food. In a race against deadly enemies, Ana will make amazing friends and astounding discoveries about her heritage as she puts her leadership skills to the test for the first time.

Riordan, who is best known for his Percy Jackson book series, is also working on a “Percy Jackson & The Olympians” series for Disney+.
