Comedian Ronny Chieng’s pilot about the Brooklyn Nets general manager is no longer moving forward at Hulu. The project is inspired by real-life Nets owner Joe Tsai. 20th Television hopes to find a new home for the pilot, Deadline reports.
The pilot was being developed by producing partners Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar.
Upcoming for Chieng is “Interior Chinatown,” a new drama series based on the award-winning book by Charles Yu.
“Interior Chinatown” follows the story of Willis Wu (Jimmy O. Yang), a background character trapped in a police procedural trying to find his way into the larger story–and along the way discovers secrets about the strange world he inhabits and his family’s buried history.
Jimmy O. Yang (Crazy Rich Asians) and Chloe Bennet will also star in the project and Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit) will direct the pilot episode and executive produce.
The series hails from 20th Television and Creator/Exec Producer Charles Yu.
Rideback, Participant and Dive are exec producing. Dan Lin, Lindsey Liberatore, and Elsie Choi will EP for Ridgeback; Jeff Skill and Miura Kite will EP for Participant, and Garrett Basch will EP for Dive.
The 10-episode series will release on Hulu in the US, on Star+ in Latin America, and on Disney+ in all other territories.
Chieng’s credits include The Daily Show, Young Rock, and Crazy Rich Asians.
