In September 2021, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that a sequel to Marvel Studios’ “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” was in the works. News on the film has been pretty scarce since then but Shang Chi star Simu Liu recently gave an update on the project on Threads.
When a fan asked about the status of Shang-Chi 2 on Threads, Simu Liu confirmed that he was told that the sequel will come after an Avengers movie, presumably The Kang Dynasty.
The actor noted that the movie “keeps pushing back” due to circumstances that are beyond his control.

For reference, depending on which Avengers movie Liu was referring to, Avengers: Kang Dynasty is set to release on May 1, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars releases in May 2027.
“Shang-Chi” follows the title character who must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization.
The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and produced by Kevin Feige and Jonathan Schwartz, with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and Charles Newirth serving as executive producers. David Callaham & Destin Daniel Cretton & Andrew Lanham wrote the screenplay for the film.
The movie stars Simu Liu, Tony Leung as Wenwu, Awkwafina as Shang-Chi’s friend Katy, and Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan, as well as Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu, and Ronny Chieng.
“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” is available to stream now on Disney+.
